Individuals moving to Hawaii should keep in mind that the entire state was formed from volcanic activity with many volcanoes still active. Volcanic instability also generates earthquakes and subsequent tsunamis.
Hawaii possesses a diverse ecosystem and culture. The state is characterized by sunlit beaches, beautiful rainforests, and even fast-paced cities.
Oahu: The Gathering Place
Oahu is characteristic of Hawaii’s diversity. Oahu is the third largest island in Hawaii and accounts for over 85% of Hawaii’s total population, which is how the island garnered itself the nickname “The Gathering Place.”
Oahu is a vastly diverse island, consisting of two mountain ranges, magnificent beaches, and a bustling city. This diversity is most notably characterized by the island’s five distinct regions.
North Shore
Oahu’s North Shore is a relaxed, laidback region, typical of how many tourists envision Hawaii. The North Shore is most famous for its immense waves in the winter, attracting surfers from around the world.
Leeward Coast
Located in western Oahu, the Leeward Coast is the island’s drier region. The Leeward Coast is considered the “local” area of the island, generally devoid of foreign inhabitants. The region consists of four rural communities and two resort areas as well as some beautiful mountains that offer hiking opportunities for tourists.
Central Oahu
The Central Oahu region has a mostly suburban mix of communities amidst rows of pineapple fields. Individuals moving to Oahu would most likely reside here.
Windward Coast
Contrary to the hot, dry climate of the Leeward Coast, the Windward Coast region is Oahu’s wetter region, lush with beautiful plant life and sprawling beaches. The region offers a wealth of natural landmarks for tourists to enjoy.
Honolulu
Hawaii’s capital and the largest city in the state, Honolulu is Oahu’s southern most region and is broken up into five separate districts.

Waikiki
Manoa-Makiki
Eastern Honolulu
Western Honolulu
Honolulu is overall a bustling metropolis, teeming with activity, commerce, and tourist attractions. The dynamic, fast-paced streets create difficulties for moving companies in Honolulu.
